Q: How did your love for Salesforce start? Was it a conscious choice or did the whole universe just conspire and make it happen?
I started using Salesforce first in a dev org, then to solve problems for a local nonprofit. Wonderfully, every time the nonprofit came up with a new business need, Salesforce had a new feature to address that need.
Q: What is your current role?
I am a Pluralsight author and an independent consultant for startups and nonprofits, two types of companies that try to get the most value out of tools they have. They have the most interesting projects.
Q: What does being a Salesforce MVP mean to you?
Being an MVP is an honor for which I am very grateful. I find that I can sometimes uniquely represent smaller companies to Salesforce so that even startups and small-midsized non-profits have a voice to express their concerns. It shows that Salesforce values customers of all types.
Q: If not a Salesforce expert, what would you have become?
I’d probably be writing C# or Java code for a social impact companies developing products to help other people if I weren’t doing the same with the Salesforce Platform.
Q: Which blogs / channels do you follow to get your Salesforce elixir?
I follow the Salesforce Admin and Engineering Blogs for up-to-the-minute advice about what the company has in the works. But I follow fellow MVPs as well.
Q: What’s next in line for you after the coveted MVP title?
We will have to wait and see. There is always something new in the works.
Q: How has your journey with the Salesforce platform and non-profits helped you in giving back to the community?
Because Salesforce moderates multiple communities for users, developers and ISVs to share their questions and their knowledge, anyone who asks a question today can return to answer questions tomorrow. It really is a great ecosystem for supporting one another and a great way to learn.
Q: What has been your most memorable Dreamforce experience till date? What are you looking forward to the most this #DF17?
So many memorable educational moments: walking out of a session and talking with other attendees about how it changed for the better how we will proceed, or having attendees at some of my sessions tell me that I helped them understand key concepts better than they had in the past. Both of those give me the best feelings. But I loved seeing Train on stage, and Colin Powell, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Melinda Gates. The entertaining moments are great too.
Q: Other than Salesforce, what does your world look like?
I am fortunate to get to travel for work and for pleasure. There are a lot of beautiful and interesting places to explore.
Q: What’s something about you that you think would surprise others?
I do trapeze and aerial hoops.
Q: Anything we missed?
My first book was on computer networks, but my second one was not about computers at all!
