Stand Together for a Sustainable Earth

World Environment Day,Greener Planet - posted by Nitin Suresh

The mercury has been rising at an alarmingly high rate for the past 50 years. Each year bettering the previous one for the highest temperature recorded. Summers are getting hotter and winters are getting colder. Gone are the days when one had access to clean water and air, both the basic necessities of life. The time has come for us to stand up and make sure that the world is habitable for our future generations.

We, humans, are responsible for the downfall of our beloved planet. The quest to get more and more profit has led to a drastic increase in the exploitation of the earth. The rainforests are the lungs of the earth. A football field worth of forest is cut down every second. Trees take in the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and convert it into breathable oxygen. The more trees are cut down, the less oxygen the growing population of earth can consume. Mining, deforestation, extensive farming and burning fossil fuels contribute to global warming – the main culprit behind the changing environment.

The average global temperature has increased by 0.8 degrees since 1880, and this increase is not linear but an exponential one. Scientists predict that if this increase cannot be slowed down within the next 12 years, the damage done could be irreparable and we would have to live in a dying planet.

A major contributor to global warming is the burning of fossil fuels. Altering our source of energy can do much good for our environment. Converting to renewable sources of energy like solar, wind, hydro and tidal makes a positive change to our world. A small step such as adding solar panels to your house can limit the influence of fossil fuels that you use. A recent change that helps the cause is the growing popularity of electric vehicles.

Let us as individuals, as the inhabitants of mother earth change our ways of life and conserve our planet for our future generations. Let us join in planting two trees for every tree that’s cut down. Let’s bring mother nature back to her own feet and make sure that she does not fall down again.

At Dazeworks, we have partnered with Pledge OnePercent to make this a reality. Here are a few of our initiatives to work towards a greener and sustainable Mother Earth.
