“Every child is a different kind of flower, and all together make this world a beautiful garden.”
As part of the Pledge 1% program, we visited the Anganwadi at Cherthala Infopark ward on their Welcome Day for children. Anganwadi is a rural mother and child care centre in India. They were started by the Indian government in 1985 as part of the Integrated Child Development Services program to combat child hunger and malnutrition. Anganwadi or “courtyard shelter” is where children below the age of three are sent to – more like a pre-school.

This time we decided to distribute umbrellas and snack boxes to the children. It seemed like the best thing we could provide in this rainy season. Spending time with the children is always the best way to relieve your stress. It gave us a break from our busy lives.

Those innocent faces and sweet smiles would melt anyone’s heart. It kept us positive throughout the day. They had organized a few activities since it was their welcome day. The children danced to some fast tunes and put up a great show. Some of them sang as well and we really enjoyed it. It took us back to our childhood away from this hurried life. A child has a special way of adding joy to every day. We left the place with a happy heart and colorful memories.
